Harvey J. Hefflin's Obituary
Harvey J. Hefflin, 85, passed away Monday morning, November 23, 2009, at Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born, April 3, 1924 in Muncie, the son of Thomas Hefflin and Maude (Wallace) Hefflin Huffman.
Harvey attended Muncie City Schools. He was drafted for the U.S. Army during that time and served in the Head Quarter Company of the 81st Chemical Mortar Battalion as a Private First Class. He participated in the invasion of Normandy in northern France.
Harvey later married the love of his life Ruth (Reynolds) Hefflin on October 22, 1950 in Muncie. Mr. Hefflin retired from Chevrolet in Muncie as an inspector in 1981 after thirty-six years of service. He enjoyed fishing, wood working with crafts and family times with his children and grandchildren. Mr. Hefflin had done some carpentry along the way having built their lake cottage and adding a room addition on their house. Harvey was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post# 651 and the United Auto Workers Union.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Joni Marie Loy (husband, Michael), Muncie and Carolyn Sue Caldwell (husband, Jeff), Yorktown; one son, Michael James Hefflin (significant other, Char Beal), Muncie; seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Edward Huffman and Bill Hefflin; two sisters, Sylvia Rigney and Evelyn Huffman; step father, Earl Huffman.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Parson Mortuary with Rev. Rusty Clements officiating.
Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10703 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie. The Delaware County Veterans Association will be providing military honors.
Friends may call at the Parson Mortuary on Friday, November 27, 2009, from 4-8 p.m. and again one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association; 9135 N. Meridian St. STE B-4; Indianapolis, Indiana 46209-7109
