Obituary

Hearld E. Verneman, 86, of Muncie, IN died at 2:55 a.m. on Sunday September 9, 2007 at his residence. He was born on September 16, 1920 in South Bend, IN the son of Hearld E. Verneman, Sr. and Goldie M. (Quier) Verneman. He graduated from Central High School in Muncie. On October 10, 1941 in Muncie he married Beverly Margarete Timmons who preceded him in death in April of 1989. On August 31, 1991 at the Riverview Church of the Nazarene in Muncie he married Linda L. (Patton) Verneman who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII.
After school he spent time working for the railroad. He spent most of his life working at Chevrolet of Muncie and retired in 1973 after 33 ½ years of service. He was a member of the Riverview Church of the Nazarene. He was the Sunday school superintendent at Five Points Nazarene which later became Riverview Church of the Nazrene, for a combined total of 25 years. At the church he participated as a board member, Trustee, Steward, and Sunday school teacher for many years.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Linda L. Verneman of Muncie; three daughters, Jill M. Mercer (husband: Mark); Cathy Lehman (husband: John); and Virginia Maxwell all of Muncie; one sister, Tyla Price of Jamestown, TN; eleven grandchildren, Gene Edward Hale; Mark Allen Mercer; Tammy Garrett (husband: Keith); Tara Jefferis (husband: David); Ramona Carroll (husband: Kenny); Angel Mercer (husband: Brian); John Northcutt (Wife: Jess); Lenny Lehman; Patrick Maxwell (wife: Anna); Sarah Miller (husband: Robert); and Curtis Maxwell who is currently serving in Iraq. Also surviving are eighteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, one daughter, Beverly Ann Hale, two sisters, Reva Wright and Razella McGumery, two brothers, Everett and Delmar Verneman, and one grandson, Eric Leon Mercer.
Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday September 12, 2007 at Riverview Church of the Nazarene 2600 E. Willard Muncie, IN. Pastor David Shipman will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Visitation will also be from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. at the church on Wednesday. Memorial contributions can be sent to the Riverview Church of the Nazarene in Memory of Hearld E. Verneman.
