Helen M. (Tootie) LaVelle 88, formerly of Muncie, IN. passed away Thursday June 19, 2008 in Rainbow City, Alabama, where she had made her home for the pasted two and one half years. She was born on June 8, 1920 in Muncie, IN. the daughter of Ed Dowling and Hazel (Johnsonbaugh) Dowling. Her uncle, Rev. H.D. Dowling, married her to Robert J. LaVelle on January 14, 1940.
She was a graduate of Royerton High School, and she worked at Ball Stores and at Royerton Schools.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Stephen Anthony "Tony" LaVelle of Hemphill, Tx. Michael J. LaVelle (wife Debra) of Canton, Ga. A daughter Sharon L. Simmons (husband Bob) of Rainbow City, Alabama. Two sisters Freda Mae Johnson (husband Marion) of Muncie, IN. and Annajene Doherty (husband Bill) of Coldwater, Mi. Three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Preceded her in death is a husband, both parents, and a daughter-in-law Bonnie LaVelle.
Services will be Wednesday June 25, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. 47303. Pastor Coleman Barlow will officiate. Burial will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie. Visitation will be Tuesday June 24, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions maybe made to the American Heart Association or the Salvation Army envelopes are available at the funeral home.
