Helen M. North, 89 passed away Sunday, January 20, 2008 in Parker Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. A native of Petersburg, IN, the daughter of Elmer Arnold and Rena O. "Speece" Arnold. Helen attended Muncie schools and graduated from Muncie Central High School with the class of 1936. She was employed with Muncie Community Schools as Food Manager of Satellite Schools from 1957 until 1981.
Helen was also employed with Pinellas County, Florida schools food service for 7 years, retiring in 1987. Helen was a member of Muncie Community School Food Service Organization, Southside Church of The Nazarene and was considered an excellent cook by her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean A. Ellenwood (husband Tom), Ocala, Florida, Carolyn S. Steed (husband Larry), Muncie; one son, Charles F. "Chuck" North (wife Sandy), Farmland; 8 grandchildren, David A. Steed (wife Carla), Muncie, Christopher W. Steed (wife Alisha), Greenfield, Steven L. Steed (wife Heather), Muncie, Thomas E. Ellenwood (wife Sharon), Michigan City, Indiana, Kevin J. Ellenwood (wife Julie Bird), Evanston, Illinois and Mark E. Ellenwood, (fiance' Allison Griffin) Raleigh, North Carolina; Jeff Thompson, Frankton and Jennifer J. Wallace, Farmland; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including, Donald Lee Love (wife Barbara), Ohio, Vernal Love (wife Ada Sue), Marion, IN and Barbara Lou Heinlein (husband Charles), Minnesota.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold M. North; one sister, Eilene Love and her half-brother, Everett James. Services will be held 1:00 PM Friday January 25, 2008 in Parson Mortuary with Rev. Keith Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 4-8 PM Thursday and prior to services Friday.
