Helen Sue Stephens, 68, of Muncie, IN, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2009 at St. Vincent''s Hospital, Indianapolis, IN. She was born on October 10, 1940 in Fentress County, TN to the late Walter Raymond and Ruby Elizabeth (Matthews) Turner.
On June 21, 1958 Helen married Claude O. Stephens in Muncie, IN. Sue was employed by Ball Memorial Hospital for 30 years as a respiratory therapist, retiring in 1990. She was an avid Bingo player; loved to travel to FL with her sisters as well as to TN; enjoyed seeing her relatives at family reunions; loved to rummage sale; and was extremely devoted to her grandchildren and their activities.
Surviving relatives include her loving husband of 51 years, Claude Stephens; son Rick O. Stephens of Lewisburg, TN; daughters Sheila Kalley (husband: Kent) of Yorktown, IN, and Vickie McMillin of Symrna, TN; sisters Jean Crum (husband: Donnie) and Linda Daily (husband: Lary), all of Hudson, FL, Brinda Leake of New Carlisle, IN, and Gail Hash (husband: Terry) of Bedford, IN; step-brothers Bill Towne (wife: Colleen) of Yorbalinde, CA, and Chris Towne (wife: Darby) of Muncie, IN; 8 grandchildren Amanda Thompson (husband: Jason), Ryan Stephens (wife: Amanda), Rhett Stephens, Rhye Stephens, Rhad Stephens, Jason McMillin, Aaron Kalley, and Savannah Kalley; four great-grandchildren Brendan Thompson, Daden Thompson, Michael Stephens, and Payton Stephens; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; step-father George Towne; brother Robert Turner; sister Ruth Ann Davis; and step-sister Susan Holmes.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2009 at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie. Visitation will be Sunday, September 27, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
