Herbert Truman Lake, 90 of Muncie went home to be with the Lord for Christmas, on December 24, 2016 at Westminster Village. He was born December 10, 1926 in Mt.Summit, IN and was the son of the late Herbert L. & Ruth (Kerr) Lake.
Herbert proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Navy, while stationed at Pearl Harbor. He retired from Borg Warner in 1989 with 40 plus years of dedicated service. Herbert was a faithful member of Center Chapel Church where he also served as an usher for many years. He loved being with his family, photography and had a great love for music.
Herbert is survived by his two children, Tracy Shafer (Francis) of Muncie and Brian Lake (Sherry) of Muncie; six grandchildren Nathan Shafer (Miranda) of Albany, IN, Natalie Swallow (Ross) of Muncie, Brandon Lake of Muncie, Braydon Lake of Muncie, Chris Murray of Muncie, and Alex Murray (Andrea) of New Castle; six great-grandchildren, Talan, Tristan, Christa, Amelia, Dorian, and Alayna; brother-in-law Walter Anderson (Sunday) of Ocala, FL; special friends George and Marilyn Harley; several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Carolyn L. Lake in 2010; two sisters Mariam Hart (John) and Julia Helmic (William); brother-in-law George Anderson (Janice) and sister-in-law Billie Gard.
Funeral Services for Herbert will be held Friday, December 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Center Chapel Church, with Pastor Rusty Clements officiating. Burial with military honors being conducted by the United States Navy and the Delaware County Honor Guard will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Garden View Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Memorial Contributions may be made to Center Chapel Church with envelopes provided at the church and funeral home.
