Herbert Ray York, age 77, of Muncie passed away on Saturday October 3, 2015 at Signature Healthcare, Muncie. Born on July 29, 1938 in Davidson, Tennessee, he was the son of Arthur D. And Hazel L. (Whited) York.
Herbert attended the Jamestown, Tennessee schools. On January 19, 1957 he married Helen Dolores Winningham. He has been an area resident since 1965.
Herbert was employed at Ball State University, where he worked in the Student Center as a Custodial Group Leader for 27 years, until his retirement in 2000.
He was a founding member of the Serenity Club of Muncie. Herbert enjoyed watching drag racing, going to flea markets, and spending time with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always made it a point to attend all Grandparents Day events as well.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years Helen York of Muncie; son Jerry York of Muncie; daughters Jacqueline (Dean Masterson) Marlow of Crossville, TN, Susan (Larry) Burke, and Rebecca (Tim) Weir both of Muncie; grandchildren Sean, Melissa, Jeremy, Justin, Jesse, and Taylor; great-grandchildren Matt, Kyzer, Kelsie, Kaylie, Noah, Maleigha, Jordan, Lenox, Jace, Maci, and Peyton; brother Jesse (Jewel) York of Muncie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Bessie Swafford and Dessie York, brothers Cecil, James, Roy, and Scotty York, and a granddaughter Laura.
Friends may call on Wednesday October 7, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. Indiana 3, Muncie.
Funeral services for Herbert will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday October 8, 2015 at the funeral home with calling one hour prior to service.
Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie.
Memorial contributions in memory of Herbert may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous.
