Herschel Allen Brown, 77 of Fairmount died Saturday morning May 24, 2014 at Parkview Regional Medical Center Fort Wayne Indiana. He was born September 30th, 1936 in Muncie Indiana and was the son of the late Austin William and Evelyn (Rogers) Brown. He graduated in 1956 from Harrison Township High School and went on to join the Navy Reserve. Herschel spent most of his life working as a commercial truck driver, many years driving a semi for Alro Steel. He was preceded in death by his wife Martha Jo (DeWitt) Brown, his brother William A. Brown and his daughter in law Rebecca (Courtney) Brown.

Herschel''s life revolved around family and church. He served as a Deacon at Corinth Congregational Christian Church and he and wife Betty volunteered their time ministering and living their faith. He loved being surrounded by his family and rarely missed an event where a grandchild was participating. He loved to laugh and always had a good joke or a story to tell.
He was an accomplished trumpet player and enjoyed sharing his talent and his love of Christian music with his family and church. He most recently played his favorite hymn, Amazing Grace, at his Brother Bill''s funeral.

Herschel is survived by his wife Betty (Martin) Brown, his 4 sons, Thomas Brown of Anderson, Ted Brown (Pam) of Gaston, Timothy Brown (Anna Marie) of Gaston and Tracy Brown (Heather) of Hollandsburg, Ohio and his 5 step-children; Terry Martin of Indianapolis, Sue Holloway (Bob) of Fairmount, James Martin (Janet) of Cadillac Michigan, Ronald Martin (Kay) of Gas City, Kenny Martin (Joretta) of Union City Ohio, Siblings: Richard Brown (wife Mary) of Deckard, TN, Carl Brown (wife Dixie) of Muncie, and Becky Fulcher (husband Fred) of Inverness FL, sister-in-law Barbara Brown of Muncie, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren and 18 step-great grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Herschel will be held Friday, May 30th, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Blake officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Friends may call from 4- 8 p.m. Thursday, May 29th, 2014 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Corinth Congregational Christian Church Building Fund.
