Obituary

Hershel E. Goney, 80, died Thursday morning, April 23, 2009, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Goney was born in Bell Farm, Kentucky, February 24, 1929, the son of Harce and Elsie (Turner) Goney. Hershel grew up in the Chattanooga and Jamestown, Tennessee areas. He came to Muncie for employment in 1949. Hershel married the love of his life Imogene (Dossett) Goney, March 6, 1954, in Muncie.
He worked as a paver for the Moore's Construction Co. for fifteen years, retiring in the late 1980's.
He was a member local #1112 construction union and Bethel Baptist Church.
Mr. Goney liked antiques and going to flee markets, and traveling. Hershel was known for his kindness and generosity. He loved the simple things of life. It was said that he never knew a stranger.
Survivors include his son, Ron Goney (wife-Patty), Muncie; three daughters, Linda Jones, (husband-Al), Marion, Debbie Taylor, (husband-Floyd), Muncie and Sharon Wilson, Columbus, Ohio; eleven grandchildren; and twenty one great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene; and one sister, Maggie Roysden.
Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Pastor Hoyt Davis officiating.
Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10501 N. State Road 3, Muncie.
Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, Saturday, April 25, 2009, from 11:00 a.m. until service time.
