Obituary

HARTFORD CITY - Humboldt Murrell, Jr., 86, passed away unexpectedly at his residence Monday, June 28, 2010.
The son of Humboldt, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (Hill) Murrell, he was born July 16, 1923 in Brownfield, Missouri and had resided in Hartford City since 1946.
He married Barbara Pickard on October 20, 1973 in Muncie. Her death occurred December 5, 2009.
Mr. Murrell had worked at Marhoefer Packing Co., Muncie and later worked for Dinner Bell Meats in Worthington, Indiana.
He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the Army Air Force.
His memberships include the American Legion Post #159 and Amvets Post # 23.
Surviving are his children, Linda (Charles) Butcher, David (Mandy) Murrell, Frances (John) Hunt, Scott (Sheila) Murrell, Lester (companion, Edie) Murrell and Nikki (Dee) Murrell, all of Hartford City; four step-children, David, Margaret, and Charles Ellis and Susan (Jeff) Fisker; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Coleman Murrell, Earl Murrell, Melzena Breakfield, and Laverne Cansler and fourteen half-brothers and sisters and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2010 at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with his grandson, Rev. David Murrell officiating.
Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, Muncie, with military graveside services conducted by Delaware County Veterans Organization.
Friends may call from 1-6 p.m. Thursday at Waters Funeral Home and 9-10 a.m. Friday.
