Icel S. Thompson's Obituary
Icel S. Thompson, 84, of Muncie, IN passed away after a brief illness on February 21, 2008 at Muncie Health and Rehabilitation Center in Muncie. He was born on May 28, 1924 in Waynesburg, KY the ninth child of ten children of Monroe and Rose Ann Payne Thompson.
He attended Waynesburg High School and volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1942. He served his country in Japan during WWII and received a honorable discharge in 1946. On August 21, 1953 in Rushville, IN, he married Esther (Abbott) Thompson. Since 1947 he had resided in the Springport / Muncie, Henry and Delaware County area. He was a member of Local N. 287 U.A.W. and retired from Warner Gear Division in 1987 with forty years of service. He became a Master Mason in June 1967 in Muncie Lodge No. 433, F& A.M.. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and coworkers. He also dearly loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Esther Abbott Thompson of Muncie; one brother Cecil J. Thompson; one sister, Lillie Weaver both of Ocala, FL, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Florida, Washington, and Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters.
Icel was a man of great passion and concern for the well being of others and will be sadly missed by his family members and friends.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday February 23, 2008 at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Pastor Fran Bullock will officiate the service. The Delaware County Honor Guard and representatives from the U.S. Army will honor Icel with military rites at the service. He will be entombed at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service (Lodge# 433) at 6:30 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Parkinson''s Foundation.
