Ira Aaron McIntire, 84, of Eaton, IN, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2009 in North Webster, IN, while fishing with his best friend and son-in-law, Fred McFarland. He was born on March 30, 1925 in Seymour, IN to the late Corvin and Bessie (Jaynes) McIntire.
He served two plus years in the Navy during WWII. On January 1, 1942 he married Catherine Murphy. Ira was employed with IBEW 855, Muncie. He later retired from there. Ira recently received his 55 year service pin with the Local IBEW 855 Union. Ira also loved to hunt and fish. Additionally, he loved his family very much.
Surviving relatives include his loving wife of 67 1/2 years, Catherine McIntire; son Sam McIntire of Eaton, IN; and daughters Lois Rogers of Huntington, IN and Shirley McFarland (husband: Fred) of Eaton, IN; brothers Phillip McIntire (wife: Judy) of Portland, IN; and Paul McIntire of Jay County, IN; sisters Claris Meeks and Ruth Garrett, both of Muncie, IN; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and very beloved cat, Pookie.
Ira was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Louise Thornbro and Mary Garrett; brothers Gilbert and George McIntire; granddaughter Tina Morris; great granddaughter Amber Mullinex; and great-great granddaughter Alexis Cansler.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie. Ira will be honored with military rites at the cemetery provided by the Delaware County Honor Guard and the US Navy.
