Irvin E. Smith, 88, of Muncie, Indiana passed away Monday July 19, 2010 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN. He was born on July 19, 1922 in Dalveville, IN the son of Ray and Crystal Smith. On July 26, 1941 Daleville, IN he married Betty L. (Foster) Smith.
He was a WWII veteran of the United States Navy that served on an aircraft carrier during the war. He graduated from Daleville High School in 1938. He lived in Muncie most of his life. He was a member of the Eagles and Moose Lodge and enjoyed dancing there. He loved watching and playing basketball. He was a people person and really enjoyed being around others.
Surviving relatives include his son, Jeffery L. Smith (wife: Dixie) of Muncie, IN; four grandsons and one granddaughter and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Melvin Smith, son Gary E. Smith and grandson Scott Smith.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Friday July 23, 2010 at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Pastor Dennis Rush will officiate the service. Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday July 23, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to American Heart Association in lieu of flowers. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
