Jack E. Gates of Selma, Indiana went to be with the Lord at the age of 87 early Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. He was born in Delaware County, Indiana on November 6, 1933 to the late Harold A. and Florence G. (McDonald) Gates.

Jack graduated from Muncie Central High School and retired from Ball Brothers Corporation in Muncie after 25 years of service as a maintenance mechanic and also playing Santa for the children. He also worked at Owens Illinois Inc in Muncie as a mechanic. He married Artie B. Warfel on June 2, 1984. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Colts play, and watching game shows. He really loved spending time with his family.

Jack is survived by his wife of 37 years, Artie B. (Warfel) Gates; two sons, Michael Gates and Richard Gates; one daughter, Kimberly Gates; four step children, Vickie Dodd, Hilda Earles (Mark), Michael Hoover, and Marilyn West (Dennis); one sister, Sharon Barlow; several grandchildren, Michael Hoover, Danielle Hayes (Jon), Amanda Vazquez (Juan), and Tabernea Hoover; and several great grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Harold A. and Florence G. (McDonald) Gates; one stepson, Gilbert Williamson, Jr.; and two brothers, Frank Gates and Phil Gates.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Road 3, Muncie with funeral services immediately following at 2:00 PM, also in the Funeral Home, officiated by Ashley Ferdin.
