James Hollis Bergdoll Sr., 94, loving and kind husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and beloved friend passed away peacefully at the age of 94. He was born on July 24, 1924 on Beaver Hill Farm near Dunkirk, IN and was the son of the late Orlistus Irvin & Ottie Esta (Collins) Bergdoll.  Jim attended a one room schoolhouse and graduated from Dunkirk High School (Class of 1942). He also attended a drafting school in Anderson.

After working at a bakery in Redkey, he made a career at Kerr Glass in Dunkirk while working the farm where he was born.  It was there, he and his wife of 61 years, Evelyn, raised four children.

Always quick with a colorful recollection for family and strangers for any occasion.  He and Evelyn were frequent travelers, especially to Hawaii.  He worked every available overtime to be able to travel there.  He also traveled to Australia, Alaska, Arizona, Mexico, and Europe.

He loved square dancing, which he enjoyed into his 90's, and was an active member of the Grand Spinners Square Dance Club. Jim had a passion for bluegrass music, traveling to local festivals to enjoy their musicianship during much of his retirement.

He was an avid collector of decorative glass, especially baskets, continuously searching for pieces that were unique in color, origin, or history.  Jim was proud that his collection was a part of Minnetrista Cultural Center's "My Collection My Story" exhibit in 2015.

A member of the Albany United Methodist Church, Jim is survived by his four children: James Bergdoll Jr. (Mitsu), Nancy Ewald (Robert), Darlene Bergdoll, Pat Smith (Jerry), nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Evelyn; half-brother, Manford; and a grandson, Jeffrey.
