James "Jim" G. Headley passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the age of 80.
Jim was born on June 9, 1944, in Sullivan, Indiana, to Hubert G. and Clolea M. Headley. A longtime resident of Muncie, Jim was well known for his strong will and independent spirit—he lived life on his own terms.
A proud graduate of Muncie Central High School, Class of 1962, Jim went on to serve his country in the Army National Guard as an aircraft mechanic. Over the years, he held many jobs, but he took the greatest pride in his 30-year career as a machinist at Borg Warner.
Jim had a deep passion for cars and racing. He loved building his 1979 Ford Pinto and spending time at the Muncie Dragway. A lifelong collector, Jim also enjoyed amassing Hot Wheels, comic books, and assembling model cars.
In retirement, Jim embraced his love for travel. He took numerous cruises with family, always seeking sunshine and warm destinations, and made many cherished memories in Florida—especially during visits to Disney World.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nancy (Dale) Headley; his second wife, Margaret (Whitesel) Headley; his son, Scott Headley; and stepson, Dean Whitesel.
He is survived by his sister, Sue (Jerry) Thomas; granddaughter, Jordyn (Dean) Northcutt; grandson, Logan Headley (Chessea Nichols); step-grandchildren, Kinley Williams (Eric Peterson), Lindsay Wright (Ben Wright); and many other extended family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Jim's honor on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Cowan Lions Club, 607 W. Malissa Ave, Muncie, IN 47302. Family and friends are invited to attend and share memories.
