James Morris Hertzog, 84, of Muncie died Sunday morning, February 21st, 2016 at his residence surrounded by family. He was born August 21st, 1931 in Dunbar, West Virginia and was the son of the late Charles Aaron & Bernedis (Myers) Hertzog.
James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother whom loved his family greatly. He proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army. James loved football and bowling at the Muncie Lanes for many years. He retired from Duling/Gillette Tree Service after 47 years of dedicated service. James was a member of the Arborist Association for 47 years.
James is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Mary Lynn (Guess) Hertzog of Muncie; two daughters Joanna Hertzog (Rick) and Jeanine Fernatt (Scott) both of Muncie; four grandchildren Amber Miller (Del), Brandie Gentry (Travis), Shelby Grove, and Tommy Langham III all of Muncie; a great-grandson Hunter James Hannah of Muncie; two sisters Jean Balle and Janet Mace both of Muncie; several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter Mariah Lynn Grove.
A Celebration of Life for James will be held Sunday, February 28th, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, with Pastor JR Sutliff officiating. Burial with military honors being conducted by the United States Army and the Delaware County Honor Guard will be at a later date in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A Special Thank You to Compassus Hospice for the care they showed James and his family.
