James L. (Jim) Gowin, 86, of Muncie, IN went to be with the Lord on Saturday. November 18, 2006 at Ball Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. He was born October 2, 1920 in Grant County Indiana to the late Merritt and Alice (Renbarger) Gowin.
A lifelong farmer, Mr. Gowin was a graduate of Sweetser High School. He was a member of the Grant and Delaware County 4-H Auction Committee. Jim was a member of the Delaware County Farm Bureau Co-op and was on the Board of Directors with AgBest. He was very active in Eden United Church of Christ where he had served on the board of trustee. He was a member of the Indiana Crop Improvement Association and he was a founding member of the Delaware County Pork Producers.
He is survived by, two sons, David (wife - Judy) Gowin of Muncie, IN; Dan (wife - Mary) of Muncie, IN; daughter, Mary Ellen (husband - Lev) Shteiman of New Jersey; two sisters, Jean Ann (husband - Phil) Boggs of Muncie, IN; Patty Thompson of Las Vegas, NV; 9 grandchildren, Ronald (wife - Kathy) Gowin of Muncie, IN, Randy Gowin and friend Amanda Sewell of Muncie, IN, Richard (wife - Cassi) Gowin of Parker City, IN, Robert (wife - Rebecca) of Albany, IN, Brandie (husband - Doug) Branscome of Fort Wayne, IN, Fay Haskins of Muncie, IN, Chad (wife - Jessica) Chadwick of Yorktown, IN, Stephaine Haskins of Muncie, IN, James Haskins of Muncie, IN; 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Mr. Gowin will be sadly missed by his very special friend and companion "Lady". He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn (Glessner) Gowin, his parents, three sisters, Mary Charlotte, Mary Alice, and Catherine Joan, his step-mother Emily Irene, and his aunt and uncle, Georgia and David Wherry, who raised him.
Services will be Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at 10:30 AM at Eden United Church of Christ, 11205 North State Road 3, Muncie, IN with Pastor Jim Behrendt and Pastor James Hilleson officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday, November 20, 2006 at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Road 3, Muncie, IN 47303.
