Obituary

James (Jim) Robert Spencer (80) of Muncie, IN passed away on October 23, 2023 with his family by his side.  Jim was born on June 8, 1943 in Indianapolis and was a lifelong resident of Muncie.  Jim fought a tough and courageous battle with an aggressive form of lymphoma for over two years.  Throughout this journey, he made a lot of friends at the Cancer Center and always had a smile or a handshake for anyone who cared for him.

Aside from being a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was a hard-working man.  He worked at Magic City Supply in Muncie for 15 years.  He was quite the entrepreneur.  He and his wife opened and operated DJ Video for 18 years.  Jim worked in his later years doing security for Ball State University where he enjoyed getting to know staff and students.  He never knew a stranger.  He loved a good conversation and appreciated sharing and receiving a good joke.  He also enjoyed woodworking and could build just about anything anyone asked him to build.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Debbie, and three children, Tina Smith, John Spencer (wife Sonya) and Tammy Lampke (husband Kevin); 7 grandchildren (Josh Smith, Jessica Ballard, Tiffani Smith, Kayla Thompson, Brittany Miller, Holly Browning, and Derek Spencer) and 13 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Cooke of Florida, and brother, Richard Spencer of California, as well as many brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.  Jim was predeceased by his parents, Edgar and Mary, as well as five siblings and an infant son.

Funeral services will be held at Center Chapel (900 W Royerton Rd, Muncie, IN 47303) on Monday, October 30, 2023 with Pastor Damon Soper officiating.  Visitation will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023 from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM until service time at 1:00 PM.  Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory.

Memorial contributions may be made to Center Chapel, Muncie, IN.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Cancer Center and ViaQuest Hospice.
