James Gordon Sanders, 78, of Yorktown died Tuesday morning, February 23rd, 2016 at his residence. He was born November 4th, 1937 in Mt. Sterling, KY and was the son of the late Jimmie Henry & Flora Belle (Donathan) Sanders.
James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He loved and enjoyed his family and being with them. James enjoyed watching Westerns and was diehard fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats Basketball Program. He had been employed at Marhoefer, Colonial Bakery, and Ross Supermarket. James was a member of the Yorktown Church of God. He proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army.
James is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Joyce F. (Neuhaus) Sanders, whom he married January 23rd, 1965 of Yorktown; two son''s Jeffrey P. Sanders (Tamara) of Muncie and Joseph L. Sanders (Lana) of Yorktown; three grandchildren Taylor Sanders of Muncie, Bobbi Hamilton of Decatur and Tyler Roy of Chesterfield; five great-grandchildren Krislyn, Robbie, Austin, Rylan and Axel; several honorary grandchildren; a sister Nancy L. Kirby; several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Richard Lee and Orville Prewitt Sanders.
Funeral Services for James will be held Monday, February 29th, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home with Pastor David P. Hershey officiating. Burial with military honors being conducted by the United States Army and the Delaware County Honor Guard will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, February 28th, 2016 and from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
