Dr. James Madison Scribner, 94, of Bartow, FL, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at his residence. He was born on August 11, 1915 in Attica, IN to the late James Madison and Othelia (Lindberg) Scribner II.
James graduated from Northern IL College of Optometry.
James was an optometrist and had his office in Dunkirk from 19421988. James was a life member of the Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge. He was also a Mason. Further membership included that of the Optometry Fraternity of Omega Delta Alpha. James was also a loyal member of Trinity Baptist Church in Wildood, FL.
James is survived by his 2 loving children: Marjorie E. Gay of Bartow, FL and James Madison Scribner IV of Arlington, VA; 3 grandchildren; Andrea Croom (husband, Dennis) of Bartow, FL; David W. Gay of IN; and Francis Gay (wife, Heather) of IN; and 6 great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn Croom; Adrianna Croom; Zachary Gay; Jacob Gay; Sarah Gay; and Elijah Ian Gay.
James was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife Norma Belle Scribner; and son Jeffrey W. Scribner.
Visitation was held at Whidden -McLean Funeral Home, Bartow, FL, on Saturday, May 22, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. The funeral service followed at 2:00 p.m. with Mary Kendall officiating. Entombment will be in Gardens of Memory Mausoleum on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one''s choice.
