Obituary

James "David" Simpson, passed from this life into eternal life on January 26, 2026, peacefully and surrounded by those he loved, now fully healed and living forever in the presence of the Lord.

David was born on September 29, 1950, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to William David Simpson and Marilyn June Simpson. He grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, where the foundation of his character - his values, work ethic, and love for family began to take shape.

David was a devoted husband to Elizabeth Ann Simpson, with whom he shared 35 years of marriage. Their life together was built on love, faith, and steadfast commitment through every season. He was a proud and loving father to his two daughters, Rebekah Elizabeth Keith and her husband Jeremy Keith and Rachel Gabriella Richardson, and a cherished Papaw to William James Keith, Marshall Quentin Keith, and Lola Olympia Richardson. Within his family, David was the encourager, the steadfast supporter, and the source of humor that could brighten any day.

David was outgoing and welcoming, a friend to all who crossed his path. He had a rare ability to make people feel instantly known, never allowing anyone to feel like a stranger. His kindness was genuine, his laughter infectious, and his presence a comfort to many. David had a true servant's heart, faithfully volunteering and serving his church family at Lutheran Church of the Cross, living out his faith in tangible ways each day.

An enthusiast in every sense, David loved the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, was a loyal fan of The Chicks, and could often be found camping, tending to the yard, or taking care of the pool with care and pride. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, bringing the same energy and excitement to his hobbies that he did to every part of his life. At home, he was the master chef, delighting his family with meals made with love. Professionally, he worked as a printer, but his proudest and most beloved employment was at St. Jude Children's Hospital, where he made a lasting impact on the lives of children and families. His favorite role was being a stay-at-home dad and Papaw, pouring his love, guidance, and humor into the lives of those he cherished every day.

David is survived by his loving wife Ann Simpson, daughters Rebekah Keith and her husband Jeremy Keith and Rachel Richardson, brother Charles "Chuck" Simpson, and grandchildren William Keith, Marshall Keith, and Lola Richardson. He was preceded in death by his parents, WD and June Simpson.
