James Marshall Wheat, 75, of Muncie, IN passed away late Wednesday evening November 28, 2007 of a long illness at his residence. He was born on October 30, 1932 in Perryville, KY the son of Alexander Page and Mattie Fleece (Deering) Wheat. He was raised in Albany, IN and lived in Muncie the majority of his life. He graduated from Albany High School in 1953. He was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1953 during the Korean War and served in active duty. He was honorably discharged in 1955. On January 5, 1955 in Las Cruses, New Mexico he married Elvira (Hernandez) Wheat who survives.
Jim worked at Lee Motor Lines and at International. He retired from Townsend''s Tree Service as a diesel mechanic. Jim enjoyed watching, N.F.L, N.B.A. and W.W.F.
Surviving relatives include his wonderful wife of 52 years, Elvira "Vita" Wheat; two daughters, Desiree Wheat White; Janette (Lynn) Ervin (husband: Steve); two sons, Lonnie James Wheat (wife: Jane); Tracy Joe Wheat; four granddaughters; 8 grandsons; 4 great-granddaughters; 4 great-grandsons, and several nieces and nephews all from Muncie, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, James M. Wheat, Jr., one daughter, Lanie F. Wheat, and several brothers and sisters.
Services will be 12:00 noon on Saturday December 1, 2007 at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Pastor Carl Norris will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie. The Delaware County Honor Guard will honor him with military rites at the cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the family of James Wheat.
