Jan Alan Druckemiller, 71, of Muncie, died at home on September 16, 2016, after an extended illness.
Jan was born September 21, 1944 in Muncie. He was employed as a firefighter for 37 years, rising to the rank of battalion chief in the MFD, retiring in 2004.
Jan was part of the first graduating class of Muncie Southside High School in 1963.
Jan left this earth to be met with open arms by his loving mother, Irene Druckemiller, who passed nine years earlier. Merritt, his father passed at age 49 in 1967. Jan''s wife, Marianne (Morris) Druckemiller, passed very early in life at the age of 29, leaving two sons, Alan and Mitchell to be raised by Jan. He was aided in raising the boys by his mother Irene, who became their chauffer, room mother, and #1 baseball fan as they graduated from Wapahani High School and Tri-State University.
Jan was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting trips with his sons, brothers, and fellow firefighters, and weekends at his summer home on Lake Webster.
Jan was preceded in death by his parents, Merritt and Irene Druckemiller; and his wife Marianne Druckemiller.
Jan is survived by brothers, Larry Druckemiller (wife Sharon) and Gary Druckemiller (wife Mary Jane); sister, Sandra Hitchcock (husband Terry); two sons, Alan Druckemiller (wife Heather) and Mitchell Druckemiller (wife Wendy); and devoted companion, Shelly Moore. Jan took pride in being a great step-father to Craig Nuckols and Carrie Nuckols Cherry.
A funeral service to celebrate Jan''s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Road 3 in Muncie. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, at Garden View Funeral Home.
