Janie Doylene Carter, 61, of Muncie, IN died Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Liberty Village after a courage battle with cancer. She was born on June 4, 1947 in McMinnville, TN the daughter of James and Velma (Bell) Lance. She graduated from IN Business College and attended Ivy Tech. On March 12, 1966 she married Paul Eugene Carter, Jr..
Janie worked at Ball State Teachers College for 26 years as a secretary and office coordinator. She was also involved in their Employee Activity Committee. Janie was a member of the Church of Christ and Christian Union in Muncie. Janie also had a passion for knitting and belonged to The Knitting Club of Yorktown. Janie and her husband also belonged to the Memory Lane Cruisers in Muncie.
Surviving relatives include her loving husband of 43 years, Paul E. Carter, Jr. of Muncie, IN; sons Paul Dan'' Carter (wife: Beth) of Muncie and Mitchell D. Carter (finance: Dawn Brooks) of Muncie, IN; aunt Wilma Dean Turner of McMinnville, TN; uncles James Bell of McMinnville, TN and JC Bell of McMinnville, TN; cousin Brenda Pritchard of Muncie, IN; and grandchildren Druciola, Joshua, Aysha, and Cheyenne. Janie was also very close to the Ya-Ya Sisters: Jan, Gerry, Linda, and Anna.
Janie was preceded in death by her parents and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Pastor Ralph Davis will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie. Visitation will be Friday, April 17, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Cancer Services of East Central IN (The Little Red Door), 401 W. Jackson St., Muncie, IN 47305 in memory of Janie.
