Jewel S. Greer, 88, passed away Sunday evening, September 20, 2009, following an extended illness.
She was born July 14, 1921, in Fentress County, Tennessee the daughter of Joe D. and Ellen (Conatser) Stephens. She married Edward Riley Greer in 1943 and they moved to Muncie after WW II when he was discharged from the US Army.
Mrs. Greer was homemaker and worked for a few years in the License Branch and the Delaware County Treasurer's Office.
She served for several years as a Democratic vice-committeeman in her precinct and was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Jewel is survived by her daughter, Carol Johnson (husband, Norman), Yorktown; two granddaughters, Suzanne Kadinger (husband, Kevin), Muncie and Marianne Spangler, Yorktown; two great-granddaughters, Hanna Kadinger and Taryn Spangler; a brother, Bill Stephens (wife, Tressa), Charlestown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Garlin and Boyd Stephens; and her sister, Shirley June Winningham.
Services will be held in The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2009. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10703 N. State Rd 3, Muncie.
Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday or one hour prior to services on Thursday.
