Joan Swift, 91, passed away peacefully at IU Ball Hospital on January 15, 2024, surrounded by family.  Joan was born in Muncie, IN on March 25, 1932 and graduated from Central High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Swift and son, Tony Swift, her parents John and Laverne Wake, 6 brothers Clarence Ditton, Billy Wake, Earl Wake, John Wake Jr., Merele Wake, Chester Wake and 3 sisters Wanda Clark, Juanita Brenne, Virginia Barker.  Joan has one surviving sister, Alice Marienau.
Joan leaves behind her son Michael Swift (Dianne), daughter Melanie (Tony Hensley) and daughter-in-law Tammy Swift.  She also leaves behind grandchildren, Brandon Hensley (Melissa), Jeremy Hensley, Amanda Champ (Travis), Adam Swift (Reagan), Wendy (Harold Howard), Justin Swift, Kyle Swift (Sarah), 2 step grandchildren Nathan Mynett (Jennifer) and Angie Brown (Rocky), 21 great grandchildren and 2 great – great grandchildren.
Joan had a fierce love for her family.  She loved the babies and enjoyed taking her grandchildren to church.  She was quite content watching the birds come and go from her many feeders and, in her day, an avid walker.  After raising her family, she was employed at Woodlands Nursing Home for 20 plus years. We will miss her delicious Red Velvet Cake and her gentle spirit.  Rest in the arms of Jesus.

We will celebrate Joan's life at Gardens of Memory on January 23, 2024.  Calling for friends and family will be one hour from 4:00pm to 5:00pm with a service beginning at 5:00pm.
