Joann Marie Hammond, 58, of Muncie, passed away on July 15, 2026, in her home. She was born in Muncie, Indiana, on August 31, 1967, to William and Carolyn (Gates) Hathaway.

She graduated from Muncie Southside High School, class of 1985. She worked for Grainger Industrial Supply as a sales associate for over 30 years.

Joann enjoyed camping, spending time with her family and friends, rummaging, collecting antiques, and was almost never seen without her oversized Ricker’s cup full of her favorite fountain drink.

She believed a lively political debate was just another way to pass the time and was not above stirring the pot just to see who would bite.

She saw beauty in some of the most unlikely places. Where others chose to see the worst, she chose to see the best whether that be related to people or things.

She was a loyal friend, daughter, and mother. She had a giving heart and would help anyone without a second thought and in any way that she could.

She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Vickie) Hammond of Muncie; son, Kyle (Guyveshia) Hammond of Muncie; dog, Emma; sister, LeeAnn (Mike) Hathaway Anderson of Albany; brother, Michael (Carol) Hathaway of Bowling Green, KY; four grandchildren, Keyonnah Goodwin, Bailey Hammond, Madison Hammond, and Kyzer Hammond.

Joann is remembered by many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jackie Hathaway; and a nephew, Jake Jackson

Arrangements have been entrusted to Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd 3, Muncie, IN 47303. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Joann’s life at a later date. Details regarding the time and location will be shared by family once they are finalized.
