Joann K. Whited, 83, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026.

Joann married her husband, Fred, on New Year's Day in 1965, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love and family. Together, they had three children: Molly (Greg Harty), Melissa (Andy Richardson), and Mark Whited. Joann was also a proud grandmother to Sarah Reffitt (Brandon Pfaff), Emily Campbell, and Sophia Whited, as well as a wonderful great-grandmother to Dylan and Caleb Reffitt.

Joann was a Christian woman with a warm, joyful spirit. She had a naturally funny and lighthearted personality, often expressed through her smiles and laughter and a well-timed raised eyebrow when you needed it—a trait fondly inherited by many of her kids and grandkids. She truly enjoyed connecting with others and brought a gentle sense of humor to everyone she met.

Joann grew up with her two sisters, Betty and Helena, and is survived by her brother, Leroy Gregory. Some of her fondest childhood memories included gardening, babysitting, and spending time with her brother.

Joann attended Eaton High School, where she and Fred first crossed paths, beginning the story of their life together.

Professionally, Joann worked as a banker and later cherished the opportunity to work alongside her daughters at Hobby Lobby. She also volunteered at the Minnetrista Orchard Shop.

Family was always at the center of Joann's life. She especially loved spending time chatting in the breakfast nook with her granddaughters and watching her great-grandsons grow into young men. Christmas Eve celebrations were her most treasured tradition, bringing family together to share laughter, love, and precious time with one another.

Joann enjoyed gardening, walking, and spending time on the porch swing with Fred. Music was very meaningful to her, especially the Anne Murray song she and Fred cherished, “Can I Have This Dance?”.

Joann found satisfaction in simple, purposeful activities such as needlework, reading, and home decorating, all of which reflected her creativity and her love of providing a beautiful home where her family could gather and enjoy being together. She was a kind, easygoing woman who found joy in family, conversation, and the simple pleasures of everyday life.
