Joe Raymond Peters, 86, of Muncie, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2010 at his residence. He was born in Atlanta, IN, on September 8, 1923 to the late Herman Raymond and Clara (Bewgel) Peters. Joe is a 1941 graduate of Muncie Central High School. In February 1943 he entered the Army. And on August 21, 1943 he married the love of his life, Alice Marie Vlaskamp, in Muncie.
Joe continued serving his country as a Private First Class and was honorably discharged in February 1946. Joe then started working at Kirby Risk as a machinist. He was employed for 34+ years before retiring in 1998. Joe also loved his children and grandchildren to the fullest. And as most know, Joe was also an avid Daleville High School sports fan who watched every sport with enthusiasm.
Surviving relatives include his loving children: Joe R. Peters, Jr. of Muncie; Alice Jean Hanson (husband, Dave) of Roanoke, VA; Julie M. Hoogenboom (husband, Jeff) of Corona Del Mar, CA; and Jeff M. Peters (wife, Kimberlee) of Muncie; grandchildren: Sally Hanson (fianc, Gray Shaneberger; Emily (Hanson) Moore (husband, Brandon); Laura (Hanson) Wally (husband, Justin); Daniel Hoogenboom; Amy Hoogenboom; Joshua Peters; Jordan Peters; and Jacob Peters; sister Ellen Keggereis of Muncie; and several nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 55 years, Alice Marie Peters.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 26, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie. The funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. Military honors will be given by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard. Reverend Ronald Ross will officiate the service.
