John Elvin Buck, age 93, of Anderson, formerly of Muncie and Ft. Myers, FL, went to be with his Lord on September, 8, 2011 at his home with his family near him. He was born October 1, 1917 in Albany, KY to James D. and Celina C. (Wood) Buck. He was a WW II Navy veteran and was a supervisor at Chevrolet in Muncie for 31 years before retiring in 1974. He married Dora Edith Wray and she preceded him in death on January 8, 1990.
John was a former member of Grace Baptist Church, Muncie, before moving to Ft. Myers where he was a member of Daniel''s Road Baptist Church and later became a member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Anderson. He was an avid fisherman who also loved to bowl, play shuffleboard, wood crafting, ride his bicycle, and cook for family and friends, especially his coconut Macaroon cookies and homemade fudge.
He is survived by his sons, A. Ray Buck (wife Carolyn Ann), of Gaston, Eldon Buck (wife Betty), of Muncie, and George Buck (wife Suzy), of Muncie; daughter, Sibyl Manifold (husband Harold) of Anderson; eight grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother Gilbert Buck and three sisters, Vera Cole, Aurelia Staley and Edith McLean.
Funeral services will be Monday, September 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3 Muncie, 47303 with Pastors Tom Lutz and Calvin Walden officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie. Visitation will be Sunday, September 11, 2011 from 2:00 until 6:00 PM at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions to Edgewood Baptist Church, Anderson or Southern Care Hospice.
