John Franklin Chipps (61), currently of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with his family by his side. Mr. Chipps was born in Muncie, Indiana to Donald J. and Emmagene (Kendall) Chipps. He graduated from Muncie Southside High School in 1966, attended Ball State University, and graduated from Vanderbilt Banking Institute. He served in the Indiana Army National Guard and received The Indiana Commendation Medal for Exceptional Meritorious Service. In 1973, John married Teresa Walburn of Eaton, Indiana, and they moved with their children to Spring City, Tennessee in 1980 where they resided for 18 years. A member of the Spring City Baptist Church, he was active in the youth puppet ministry.
John is survived by his wife Teresa, son Bradley Chipps, daughter Jodi Chipps Eastgate, son-in-law Christopher Eastgate and granddaughter Caroline Nelson Eastgate all of Nashville, Tennessee; mother Emmagene Chipps, brother James Chipps, and sister Malinda Chipps of Muncie, Indiana; and father- and mother-in-law Donald and Maxine Walburn of Eaton, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his father Donald J. Chipps of Muncie, Indiana.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N State Rd. 3, Muncie, Indiana on Thursday, May 13, 2010. Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 14, 2010, at 11:00 am with an additional hour of visitation from 10:00-11:00 am. Reverend Rob Farris will officiate the service. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with military rites honored by Veteran''s of Delaware County Honor Guard.
