MUNCIE - John Earl Johnson, 76, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2009 at his residence with his loving family by his side.
He was born on June 15, 1933 in De Soto, IN to the late Lora V. and Lucy B. (Coulter) Johnson.
John is a U.S. Army veteran. He served his country for two years in Korea.
In October 1956 he married Velda I. Clark in Muncie, IN.
John enjoyed working with his hands; farming; carpentry; building and repairing items; as well as camping, skiing, and boating at his lake cottage.
John is survived by his two daughters, Tonia Johnson-Vore (husband, Bill) of Muncie and Mary Hamilton of Selma; brothers, Joe Johnson (wife, Rachel) and Wendell Johnson (wife, Emma), all of Muncie; a sister, Betty Dixon (husband, Fred) of FL; five grandchildren, Tim Ice (wife, Angie), Heather Simmons (husband, Jerry), Matt Johnson, Justin Johnson (significant other, Emily), and Courtney Johnson; and five great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife of forty-seven years, Velda Johnson; and brother, James Johnson.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd 3, Muncie, IN. Tim Stigers will officiate the service.
Delaware County Honor Guard will conduct military rites at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie, IN.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the funeral home.
