John Shaffer Parker, 94, of Hartford City, passed away Sunday, April 14th, 2013 in his rural Blackford County home, where he was receiving loving home health care from Diana Ring and Karen Fleming. He was born on September 24th, 1918 in Hartford City, and was the son of the late Gola & Nellie (Heath) Parker.
John graduated from Hartford City High School class of 1936 and he attended Ball State College. He was a member of Hazelwood Christian Church of Muncie, and Ch-Ki-Lo Sunday School Class, where he had many good friends. John was a retired farmer, whose wife was always by his side, whether working in the field or mowing the yard. He married Lillian Louise Dorton, on September 28, 1939; they were married for 72 years.
John is survived by a son Fred L. (Connie) Parker; two grandchildren, Dean A. (Ashley) Parker, and Pamela S. McGreevy; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Lillian Parker, and a brother Fred Parker.
Funeral Services for John will be held Saturday, April 20th, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, with Pastor Colby Smith officiating. Entombment will follow in Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday, at the funeral home.
