John T. Pennington, age 91, of Muncie passed away on Thursday November 27, 2014, Thanksgiving Day, at 3:19 PM, surrounded by his loving family, at I.U.Health Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie. Born on July 27, 1923 in Cave City, Kentucky, he was the son of Reno T. and Emma Blanche (Simmons) Pennington.
John grew up during the Great Depression years which molded him into a self-made man. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and he also received numerous awards. In addition, he was a member of the ECSAA and UAW Local # 662.
John always had an inquisitive mind, if it was mechanical or electrical, he wanted to see what made it work. He accomplished this by working a variety of jobs at Delco Battery, Warner Gear, and finally at Delco Remy, where he retired as an electrician after 30 years of service.
John is survived by his children Judith A. (Phillip E.) Norris of Muncie, Larry Wayne (Terry) Pennington of Chesterfield, and Debra (Richard) Blair of Muncie; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Ballard of Sellersburg, IN, and two brothers Clifford (Eva) Helbig and George Helbig both of Henryville,IN. and a lifelong friend, Mary Bell Cleveland
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gloria in 2004 and 4 siblings.
Visitation will be on Wednesday December 3, 2014 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 N. Indiana 3, Muncie.
Funeral services for John will follow at 1:00pm at the funeral home.
John will be entombed in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery Mausoleum, Muncie.
