John E. Ramsey, 71 of Gaston, IN passed away suddenly at Ball Memorial Hospital. He was unofficially named a "Gentle Giant" by friends. He was born December 14, 1940 in Alexandria IN the son of the late Ernest and Anna Mae (Silvey) Ramsey. John was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Ramsey. John was a 1958 graduate of Harrison Township High School where he was recognized for several records in Basketball. He was also a member of the Delaware County Reserves for 30 years, serving on the board and or the presidency for 27 of those years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge#33 (Muncie, IN) and the Eagles Lodge of Alexandria, IN. John was an auto mechanic "extrodinaire" who could fix anything repairable. He opened his first Sinclair Station with his brother-in-law in 1964 and then moved to the ownership of Arco Station on Kilgore until 1974. John then moved his business to Gaston, In where he served the community by owning/ managing Ramsey and Son''s Auto Center for the next 38 years. He also enjoyed helping family and friends with building, plumbing and electrical improvements. He relaxed by taking his sisters as well as many friends on vacation to various locations for the past 10 years. John is survived by his loving wife, Lillie (Hutchens) Ramsey; son, Brian (Tammy) Ramsey; daughter, Kathy (David) McManus; sisters, Sharon (Clark) VanTassel and Sheila (Mike) Carpenter; his grandchildren, Lance McManus, James McManus, Remington (Sara) Ramsey and Riley Ramsey; a great grandson, Lance Michael Ramsey, Jr. and a special "little buddy" Braydon Bennett. Visitation for John will be on Tuesday (4/03/12) from 4 to 8pm at the Garden View Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday (4/4/12) at 1pm in the funeral home, and entombment will follow after the services in The Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
