Obituary

Johnnie Catherine "Katie' Carrick

Katie was born in 1933 in rural Coffee County Tennessee to Lem G. and Willie Mae (Carr) St. John. Katie moved to Muncie in the early 1940's and graduated from Muncie Central H.S. in 1951.

In her youth Katie was one of the best women bowlers in the Muncie area. In 1959, Katie married James R Carrick in Muncie. Katie worked as an administrative assistant in the insurance claims business for over 20 years and worked for (then) Comprehensive Mental Health for over 10 years.

Katie enjoyed camping and traveling with her family and always enjoyed yearly visits to Oklahoma and Tim Ford State Park in Tennessee. She always looked forward to the weekly aggravation games with nearby family. She was an excellent cook and a hard worker who always put family first. After retirement she and husband Jim were able to travel in their motorhome and see many wonderful sites around this great country. Katie was very independent and wanted little help with almost anything but was always willing to lend a hand to friends and family.

Katie was preceded in death by husband of 60 years James R Carrick, her sister Billie (and brother-in-law Carson) Cantrell and brother L.G. St. John. She is survived by their son, Mike (wife Stephanie) Carrick; niece Patty (husband David) Nicholson; nephew Michael (wife Jan) Dillie; sister-in-law Cheris; several nephews ; friends Nadine, Helen, Mary, and Billie Jean; her dogs Sam and Abby.

A private memorial service will be held to honor Katie and her life.  In lieu of flowers, please make contribution of your choosing to a local animal protection organization.
