Joyce E. Smekens, passed away peacefully this morning at 87 years old surrounded by her beloved husband, Eugene Smekens, at Morrison Woods Memory Care. Joyce was married to Eugene Smekens for 54 years, so this will be quite an adjustment for him. Please say a prayer for them both. She grew up next door to Danny, Tommy, and Jerry Thornburg in Shedtown, and they all shared incredible stories about their childhood.
She loved going to the casino with family. Joyce was feisty until her last days.Dementia had no chance against her.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Eugene Smekens; her sister Patsy Boller; her son and daughter, Todd Smekens and Stephanie Fleming; her grandchildren; great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Don and Rosella Thompson; and her sisters, Sally Jones, and Betty Miller; and daughter, Deborah Brown.
Calling hours for Joyce will be held at Garden View Funeral Home on Tuesday, Apr 23, 2024 from 11:00 - 12:00 PM with a funeral service starting at 12:00 PM with Pastor Glen Greiner Officiating. Burial will be taking place after the funeral at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
