Obituary

Born Judith Cummins January 8th, 1943, to Omer and Thelma (Markin) Cummins. She was one of the youngest of 2 sisters and 6 brothers. Judy jokingly said she had two older mothers and 6 older fathers. She is survived by her brother Homer Cummins and nieces, nephews and cousin, too many to count.
Although she had no children of her own, she was a mother and grandmother to all oof her nieces and cousins.
After graduation from Muncie Central High School, she became Jill of trades. She worked for the famous Ball Jar company in their factory, she learned how to solder computer chips when computers were simple, and an adult could operate one without having to call on their children to help them. She worked as a front desk clerk at a dry cleaner where she became the manager and ran the store. She retired from the hospitality industry as a supervisor of a restaurant in the Pahrump Nugget Casino. In all her jobs she always made a personal connection with her clientele and was a friend to everyone.
Judy accepted the Lord as her Savior in her mid-thirties and her love of our Lord showed in every part of her life. When you hear about someone who would "give you he shirt off of their back", this barely scratched the surface of who she was. If someone complimented her on anything she possessed she would literally offer it up to them.
Judy enjoyed being a part of the W.O.W ladies' group at her church. Here she was able to put her crafting skills to use creating different themes for their meetings.
In her down time, she loved crafting. Her passion was taking old furniture and breathing new life into it. Her crafting filled 2 bedrooms and a garage. There was not much she wouldn't try. She loved going out to enjoy a meal with family and friends. This was her mission field. She loved showing her faith in public by sharing Jesus with her waitress and leaving a large tip, showing Christ's example of giving.
Her sense of humor was never ending. Whether she was at home or the grocery store she never missed an opportunity to make someone laugh, even if it was at her expense. She would be lying in her hospital bed and find ways to play tricks on her caregivers or tease them. Her laugh warmed our hearts and will be greatly missed. Our loss is the angel's gain.
Judy was preceded in death by husband Jerry Syferd, father and mother Omer and Thelma Cummins, Cummins brothers Eugene, Galen, Perry, George, Charles Lee, sisters Margaret Rovene Rinearson, Nona Kay Benavides
Survivors of Judy include brother Homer Cummins (Royerton/Muncie In.) and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 15th at 11:00 at Garden View Funeral Home with nephew Rick Cummins officiating. Friends may call at Garden View one hour before the service begins.
