Julie Jean Swartz (Kirtley), born March 26, 1956, in Muncie, Indiana, to Charles and Norma Jean (Mauck) Kirtley, passed away on October 3, 2024, in her hometown.
A dedicated bus driver for Wes-Del School Corporation for 39 years, Julie was known for her kindness and commitment to her students. She enjoyed crochet, sewing, and baking, and was a long-time member of the 4-H Homemaker's Club and the 4-H program.
As a devoted member of Gaston Main Street Church, she served as secretary and helped manage the food pantry, reflecting her passion for community service. Above all, Julie cherished her family and the connections she fostered throughout her life.
Julie is survived by her father, Charles Kirtley (Betty); son, Larry May (wife, Kristan); daughters, Jennifer May and Sara Gerke (husband, Terry); brothers, Terry Kirtley (wife, Sandy), Jerry Kirtley (wife, Cathie); sister, Cinda McKibben; brother-in-laws, Kendall May (wife, Laura), and Pat Swartz; sister-in-laws, Gloria Herman (husband, Greg), and Pam Waymire; grandchildren, Austin, Morgan, Alyssa (husband, Aaron), Lillie, Gavin, Nora, Lilly, Evy, Hank, and one on the way, Westin; and several great-grandchildren.
Julie is preceded in passing by her beloved husband, Mike Swartz; mother, Norma Jean Kirtley; father-in-law, Bud Scott; brother, Jim Kirtley; brother-in-law, Greg McKibben; and grandson, Skyler Denney.
Family and friends may call at Gaston Main Street Church, 105 Main St, Gaston, IN 47342, on Friday, October 11th, 2024 from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Additional calling hours will be held from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. The Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM at Gaston Main Street Church. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Garden View Funeral Home; online condolences can be made at www.gardenviewandgardensofmemory.com.
