Obituary

Katherine Elizabeth Whiting was born on November 15, 1932 in Como, Mississippi to the late Arglova Clara Brunt and Hugh Davis.
Katherine accepted Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Mariah C.M.E. Church in Como, Mississippi. In 1948 her family relocated to Memphis, Tennessee where she met the love of her life Hosea Whiting while attending Booker T. Washington High School. They were joined in holy matrimony on November 6, 1950. They relocated to Detroit, Michigan then to Muncie, Indiana for a better job and to be closer to her sister Texanna and family in 1952. After arriving in Muncie they united with Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she chaired and was member of several church boards and committees. She worked for Ball State University for twelve years before deciding to devote herself to become a full time wife and mother. Katherine also enjoyed traveling with the North Eastern District convention and her local bowling team. She was involved in many other hobbies.
Katherine was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-three years, Hosea Whiting; a son, James Whiting (died during child birth); her parents, Arglova Clara Brunt and Hugh Davis; a sister, Texanna Howard; two brothers, Harvey Lee Denson and Bemis James Denson.
She leaves to cherish and continue her legacy four sons, Willie Charles (Charline) and Robert (Linda) of Oxnard CA, Larry and Otis (Candice) of Muncie, IN; four sisters, Ella Mae Brown of Detroit, MI, Eddie B. Mure, Doris M. Denson Belcher of Richmond, CA, Joyce Ann Roar (Roy) of Kansas City MO; three brothers, Calvin E. Denson (Marion), Otis Denson, of Kansas City, MO, Larry A. Denson (Sheila) of Davenport, OK; seven grandchildren, Trent (Theresa), Jacinta (Melvin), Ebony Nique, LouMeshia (Terry), Julien, Prince, Jonathon; eight great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other family, longtime friends Joanne Kirkland Emma Dorrough and Juanita Wilkerson.
Funeral service will be Saturday September 25, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
Calling hours will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Pastor Aston Chambers will be officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
