IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kelly
Bickel
December 27, 1935 – August 19, 2023
Mr. Kelly K. Bickel, Muncie, passed away on the early morning of Friday, August 19, 2023. He was 87. Kelly was born December 27, 1935 in Union City, Indiana, a son of the late Edgar and Nellie (Brooks) Bickel.
Kelly attended Union City High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1955. Kelly honorably served his country in the United States Army, serving two tours of duty - the first during World War II and he was then recalled to serve during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Kelly worked for the Norfolk and Western Railroad for 15 years and then worked for General Motors at both the former Chevrolet plant in Muncie and then at Fisher Body in Marion for a combined 35 years. He was a member of the United Auto Workers during his time with GM.
Kelly was a very crafty man and enjoyed woodworking where he would create beautiful pieces of art from wood. He also was a fix-it kind of guy and could repair or construct almost anything. He spent some of his spare time fishing, camping, boating and making memories taking family trips to the lakes of Minnesota. He also loved spending the winters with his wife in Fort Myers, Florida.
Kelly also enjoyed watching college basketball, especially the March Madness tournament. He deeply loved his family and cherished the time they could spend together, especially those grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Kelly is survived by his wife, Sherry (Chamlee) Bickel; his children, Tracy (special friend: Carrie) Bickel and Kelly Cox; brother, Jim Bickel; sisters, Kay Stewart and Carolyn Bates; grandchildren, Shelby Cox (special friend: Dean) and Skyler Meadows (Amanda); a great grandchild, Sawyer Meadows; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Gardens of Memory Cemetery on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 11am. Military Honors will be performed by the Delaware County Honor Guard.
