Larry Lee Owens, 77 of Muncie, died Thursday morning, March 23, 2017 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born August 4, 1939 in Muncie and was the son of the late Joseph Wayne & Maxine L. (Blair) Owens.
Larry retired after 37 years of services from General Motors New Venture Gear. He was a member of the Eaton Church of God. Larry enjoyed fishing, golfing, mushroom hunting, arrow head collecting, and traveling. He loved attending his grandchildren''s sporting events.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Judith Ann (Harris) Owens of Muncie; two sons Rev. Terry Owens (Cynthia) of Ft. Wayne and Randy Owens ( Anne Harris of Anderson) of Jamestown, IN; a daughter Dawn R. Godsey (Wayne) of Cowan; a step-son Lewis Heaton (Rhonda) of Muncie; three step-daughters Beverly Mauck (Dennis Cunningham) of Muncie, Brenda Thornburg (Rick) of Chattanooga, TN, and Deborah Norrick (Mike) of Anderson; a grandson Kevin Payne of Muncie; ten step grandchildren Katlynn Godsey of Dunkirk, Melissa Butler (Brad) of Muncie, Jason Mauck (Kortnee) of Gaston, Erica Henry (Paul) of Chattanooga, TN, Drew Thornburg (Rachel) of Kansas City, MO, Tiffany Abdahal (Hassan) of Westfield, IN, Tanner Norrick of Ft. Myers, FL, Wendy Heaton of Muncie, Natalie Heaton of Muncie, and Piper Heaton of Muncie; nine step-great-grandchildren; two brothers Rev. Clifford Owens (Ruth) of Grand Rapids, MI and David Owens (Theresa) of Marion, IN; a twin sister Sharon Vannatter (Ron) of Muncie; two brother-in-law''s Donald Harris (Judy) of Losantville and Paul Harris (Becky) of Dade City, FL and a sister-in-law Mary Jo Sgro (John) of Houston, TX. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws Joe and Lydia Harris, son-in-law Bill Mauck, sister-in-law Phyllis Nelson, great niece Paige James and a brother-in-law Gary James.
Funeral Services for Larry will be held Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, with Pastor Brandon Petro officiating. Private Burial will be in Black Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Eaton Church of God with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
