Larry Gene Rees, 79, of Muncie, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2020. He was born to the late Virgil M. and Gladys (Hughes) Rees in Portland on August 22, 1941.
Larry married Sonja K. (Houk) Rees in 1963. He graduated from Ball State University with a Master's Degree in Education and taught middle school and high school math and science for Daleville Schools. He was a member of Hazelwood Christian Church in Muncie, The Muncie Moose, and Jaycees. He owned and managed the Putt Putt Golf Course on Wheeling in Muncie, coordinated Chess Club and Bible Study at Daleville High School, and enjoyed Muncie Civic Theater as a comic and poet. He enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears and was a Ball State football season ticket holder for over 40 years. He was a statistician for his childrens' sports teams, including football, wrestling, swimming, and softball. He was a gardener of fruits and vegetables, a chef, a handyman, and a self-proclaimed master of duct tape. His presence will surely be missed.
Larry is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Sonja K. (Houk) Rees; sons, Lawrence "Andy" Rees (Wendy) of Muncie and Eric Rees (Rebecca) of Greensburg; daughter, Shellie Hunter (Brian) of Noblesville; 6 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil M. and Gladys (Hughes) Rees and brothers, James Rees and Michael Rees.
Celebration of Life Services will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020 at 5:00 pm in Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Road 3, Muncie.
