Lee Alonzo Bourne, 82 of Yorktown, died early Thursday morning, May 18th, 2017 at his residence. He was born August 12, 1934 in Dunkirk and was the son of the late Linnlie Alonzo & Ida May (Cline) Bourne.
Lee excelled in school and was very proud of a 5 year perfect attendance record and carried straight A''s. He worked 2 years at the Sneath Glass Factory in Hartford City and was a precision tool grinder for Delco Battery in Muncie for 40 years. Lee proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army serving in the 176 AAA Missile Battalion stationed in Valley Forge, PA. He was a past master of Anthony Lodge 171, F&AM; honorary member of Muncie Lodge 433; Delaware 46, William A Full Lodge 744; Daleville Lodge 730, Farmland Lodge #308 and New Castle 91. He was a recipient of the Gold Honor Award of the York Rite Sovereign, College of North America. Lee served a commission as a special deputy to the grand master of Indiana. He also was a Master Ritualist of the Masonic Lodge, of which he serviced for 50 plus years. Lee was a member and past Chaplain of the United Auto Workers Union Local 489. He had been active in the Albany Methodist Church and had also taught Sunday School there. Lee attended Mt. Olive Church and Yorktown Christian Church. He retired in 1993 being a runner all his life. Lee began running competitively, successfully training triathlon every morning at 5:25 a.m. He made many really good friends in the runner''s circuit and logged several thousand miles with his two best 4 legged friends Bungi & Shadow.
Lee is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Patricia Louise (Byrd) Bourne, whom he married September 16, 1956 in Forrest Park Nazarene Church in Muncie; a son Jeffery Lee Bourne (Susan) of Yorktown; two daughters Deborah Lynn Harman of Yorktown and Deena Kay Shroyer (Steve) of Owatonna, MN; three granddaughters Erin Harman of Muncie and Oliva and Natalie Shroyer of Owatonna, MN; three great-grandchildren Marley, Bella, and Elijah Harman; two nieces and a nephew also survive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Ruth Daniel, brother Burwell Bourne and a son-in-law Rod Harman.
Funeral Services for Lee will be held Friday, May 26, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Lewis officiating. Burial with military honors being conducted by the United States Army and the Delaware County Honor Guard will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. A Lodge of Sorrow Service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday by the New Castle Lodge #91. Memorial Contributions may be made to ARF (Animal Relief Fund) with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
