Lester C. Carter, age 90, of Muncie passed away on Wednesday October 23, 2013 at Signature Healthcare of Muncie, after a long illness. Born on February 12, 1923 in Henry County, Indiana, he was the son of the late Morton R. and Mary Susan (Padgett) Carter.
After high school, Lester joined the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served his country. He was an airplane mechanic and also flew on rescue planes in the Fiji Islands and in Hawaii. On August 3, 1946, Lester married Lorraine A. Busa at St. Constance Church in Chicago, Illinois. He later worked as a machine operator for 39 years at Borg Warner. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
Survivors include loving wife of 67 years, Lorraine of Muncie; daughters Carolyn (Richard) Gehlbach of Carmel, Mary (George) Conlon, and Judy (William) Belt both of Muncie; sons Christopher (Robin) Carter of Muncie and Brian "Tony" (Amy) Carter of Daleville; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Estol Duncan.
Friends may call on Sunday October 27, 2013 from 2-5 p.m. at the Garden View Funeral Home 10501 N. Indiana 3, Muncie, with a Rosary held at 4:30p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday October 28, 2013 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church 820 East Charles Street , Muncie, with calling one hour prior. Father Dennis Goth, Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie with Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Navy and Delaware County Honor Guard.
