Obituary

Lester E. Rainey Sr., 94, passed away Wednesday afternoon following an extended illness at the Westminister Village. He was born on September 13, 1916 in Muncie, the son of William Henry and Mary Elizabeth (McCalister) Rainey.
Mr. Rainey attended Muncie city schools. Lester married the love of his life Burnice (Sims) Rainey on March 20, 1937 and she survives. He worked as a Forging Operator for the Muncie Chevrolet plant retiring in the early 1970's after 30 years of service. While employed there, Lester was the union steward/committeeman for the UAW Local #499. Mr. Rainey is a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army. Lester was a member of the Full Gospel Temple, a senior citizen Euchre club, and worked puzzles. Earlier in his life he enjoyed golf, bowling, football and basketball.
Besides his wife Burnice, he is survived by a son, Lester E. Rainey Jr. (wife-Barbara), Muncie; three daughters, Phyllis Long (husband-Danny), Muncie, Shirley Wright (husband-Donnie), Muncie and Sharon Schenck (husband-Ray), Middletown; several grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Marie Rainey in 1945; a grandson, Steve Schenck; and a great grandson, Brandon Rainey.
Funeral Services will be held at the Full Gospel Temple on Monday, December 20, 2010, 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Denny Helton officiating. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory north of Muncie.
Friends may call at the Parson Mortuary on Sunday, December 19, 2010, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and again on Monday December 20, 2010 at the church from 12:30 p.m. until service time.
