Lila Ward, 88, of New Castle, passed away at 11:41 pm, on March 15, 2026, at her residence. She was born in New Castle, Indiana, on April 6, 1937, to Courtland L. and Pauline A. (Hawkins) McCubbins. She married Jerry D. Ward, and he preceded her in death.

She graduated from New Lisbon High School and last worked at the Iron Kettle as a waitress, in Sulphur Springs. She was a long-time member of White Union Church of Honey Creek, Indiana.

Lila enjoyed working in her yard, tending to her garden, and enjoying the beauty of all scenery. She was a good cook and found reward in canning. She was crafty, enjoyed sewing, and crocheting. She also liked working puzzles, reading, and listening to music.

She is survived by her children, Kris (Randy) Olin of Sulphur Springs, John (Sheri) Ward of New Castle, Geraldine (Randy) Smith of New Castle, Joe Ward of New Castle, and Lila Ellen (Ron Lee) McClurg of Albany; brother, Clyde McCubbins; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and six and one- on-the-way, great- great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Ward; parents, Courtland L. and Pauline A. McCubbins; and five siblings, Debbie, Esther, Jack, Richard, and JC.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd 3, Muncie, IN 47303.

A service to celebrate Lila‘s life will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory in Muncie.
