Lonnie Edward Markum, 92, of Muncie, entered eternal rest Thursday afternoon, June 13th, 2013. He was born February 28, 1921 in Coffee County, TN., and was the son of the late Adam & Fannie (Youngblood) Markum.
Lonnie was a lifelong farmer; he had a great love for farming, raising beef cattle, and Tennessee Walking Horses. He was a homebuilder in the early 50''s & 60''s. Lonnie enjoyed and loved his family greatly. He was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ, and UAW 287. He retired from Warner Gear in 1987 after 36 years of service. Lonnie proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army during WW ll, spending 3 ½ years in England.
Lonnie is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, whom he married on November 1st, 1946 in Rossville, GA., Daisy Marie (Bush) Markum; one son Ron Markum of Muncie; four daughters, Barbara Schlegel (Steve) of Warsaw, Judy Hammer (Chuck) of Selma, Marsha Andrews of Muncie, and Peggy McCormick (Tony) of Oakville; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren; a sister Beatrice Fletcher (Eddie) of Manchester, TN., and a brother Randall Markum (Dolas) of Murfreesboro, TN.; several cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters (Dorothy and MaeBelle) and a brother (Hoover).
Funeral services for Lonnie will be held Tuesday, June 18th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Garden View Funeral Home with Minister Brian Howard officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors conducted by the Delaware County Honor Guard and the United States Army. Family and friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Monday, June 17th, 2013 and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Towne Acres Church of Christ, with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
