Obituary

M. Edith Johnson, 89, passed away Monday, August 31, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family.
Edith was born September 4, 1919 in Galveston, Indiana to the late James and Ada Moore.
Edith was a homemaker and also worked for Chevrolet during World War II. She also worked in food service. Working at Ball State University and retiring from Muncie Community Schools. She had attended Morningside United Methodist Church and was a member of The National Food Service Association. She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed crafts, camping, and spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Edith is survived by her husband of nearly 73 years, Lyndon Johnson; five children, James Johnson (wife, Janet) of Oakville, Dick Johnson (wife, Lanna) of Muncie, Chod Johnson (wife, Edith) of Muncie, Phyllis Rumfelt (husband, Tom) of Muncie, and LuAnn Williams (husband, Rod) of Muncie; seventeen grandchildren, Jeff, Jason, Jenni, Pam, Nancy, Michelle, Stephanie, Brenda, Tony, Missie, Todd, Rodney, Bitty, Bubby, Dude, Rachel, and J.D.; thirty-four great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Edith was preceded in death by a grandson, Keith Johnson; and five sisters and six brothers.
A funeral service to celebrate Edith's life will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home at 4600 W. Kilgore Ave., with Pastor Joey Prewitt officiating and a special eulogy by Doris Westerman. Burial will follow Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10703 N. State Rd 3, Muncie, IN.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember two hours prior to services from 12-2 p.m. Thursday at Elm Ridge Funeral Home.
